Disappointment

What is disappointment but an excuse

Waiting to happen

A dry bed of chalk dust

In the mouth of a lover or a friend

Or someone pretending to hold your heart in high esteem

What is disappointment

But a place where bones huddle together

Remembering a life past

Some buried treasure that used to shine by moonlight

But no longer catches the ray of light

That used to make it sparkle

And in the light of day everyone can see the truth.

What is disappointment

but a song you know all the words to

but refuse to play again

for fear it will spill emotion

and blacken the sky

that just blazed blue and clear

what is disappointment

but another promise broken.
